Reverse
The circular reverse design by Claude Thivierge features a contrasting “yin and yang”-like representation of the grey wolf (Canis lupus). Two wolves are positioned chin-to-chin to illustrate the tight social bonds that exist between pack members and each wolf has fixedits gaze on the viewer. Gold and black rhodium plating perfectly splits this engraved image into two opposite but complementary halves.

The perfect complement to our Black & Gold: Canadian Horse coin produced in 2019! The wolf fascinates by its duality, an aspect of its being that is highlighted on this 99.99% pure silver coin evoking yin and yang. On the one hand, this highly intelligent, social animal has long been feared, even unfairly portrayed as the villain of fairy tales. On the other, the elusive hunter is an indispensable part of its ecosystem, contributing to the balance between flora and fauna, and between prey and predators.Special features
BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND! The successor to our popular Black & Gold: The Canadian Horse coin produced in 2019, this 2021 vintage coin brings us face-to-face with a second Canadian animal species as you've never seen it before: the gray wolf.
A DYNAMIC MOTIF! Like its predecessor, featuring the Canadian horse (2019), this coin features a yin-yang motif on the reverse, representing the animal's close social ties. Immerse yourself in the penetrating gaze of the wolf, whichever way you look at it!
GOLD AND BLACK RHODIUM! The yellow gold and black rhodium with which the motif is plated divide the piece into two opposing but complementary elements. The result is eloquent: the omnipresent animal - as feared as it has been admired throughout history, but which we have come to understand better over time - appears in all its duality.
THREE DIFFERENT ALLOYS! Beneath the gold and black rhodium plating, the piece is 99.99% pure silver.
OUR LATEST PIECE WITH BLACK RHODIUM PLATING! As with some of our black rhodium-plated pieces, the matte metallic finish produces a striking contrast with the yellow gold. Creating a lovely play of light and shadow, each finish reveals details that go unnoticed in the other part of the design.
A LIMITED EDITION! Only 4,500 worldwide.
A NUMBERED CERTIFICATE! The Royal Canadian Mint certifies the authenticity of all its collector coins.
Did you know?
The coat of a gray wolf is not necessarily gray! In the same pack, you can find grey, brown, white and even black specimens.
Wolves are territorial and hunt in packs. In fact, they spend most of their time in the company of other wolves, maintaining close family ties. While they express themselves in a variety of sounds and movements, wolves are best known for their howl, which can be heard for miles around.
Packaging
The coin is encapsulated and presented in a double-shell case featuring the Royal Canadian Mint logo. The case comes with a black protective box.
Interesting fact
The Grey Wolf coin features a unique black rhodium plating, which gives the coin a distinctive dark appearance, making it stand out from other coins.
