Did you know?
Canada's official coat of arms has been redesigned three times since 1921: in 1923, the style was slightly altered; in 1957, the Royal Crown was modified and the sprig of maple leaves on the shield was coloured; finally, in 1984, the motto of the Order of Canada, Desiderantes meliorem patriam ("They desire a better country"), was inscribed in a ring encircling the shield.
Did you know that you could have your own heraldic emblem? Canadian citizens, municipalities and organizations can all apply to the Canadian Heraldic Authority for the creation of their own emblem (coat of arms, flag or badge). The granting of heraldic emblems is an honour conferred within the Canadian honours system in recognition of services rendered to the community.
