Designed by Canadian artist Glen Loates, your coin depicts a young white-tailed deer (fawn) with itsmother (doe) in one of Canada's many forested areas. A three-quarter profile and the use of selective colouring beautifully showcase the fawn's reddish-brown coat, which is marked from its neck down to its tail by hundreds of bright white spots scattered along each side. Its black, pointed nose and eyes give the fawn a tender expression as it moves with increasing steadiness through the forest on long, hooved legs. Finely detailed engraving captures thedoe's features as she stands protectively at the fawn's side, ever attentive to any signs of danger from a predator that may be lurking nearby. Meanwhile, summer's bright sunlight filters through the vibrant, green-coloured canopy of maple leaves and casts shadows along the forest floor, where afallen tree and vegetation add more dimension to the image's engraved setting.

With its big, soft eyes and graceful features, the white-tailed deer fawn (Odocoileus virginianus) melts the heart of anyone who crosses its path! The calf of one of Canada's most widespread large species is usually born in spring. It is speckled with white and its legs are unstable. Yet it stands upright within minutes of birth. In the days that follow, the fawn is very vulnerable, camouflaging itself and protecting itself from predators with its coat. It depends on its mother, the doe, for food. It's this touching bond that is tenderly depicted on the reverse of the latest coin in the Royal Canadian Mint's Small Animal World series.

Did you know?
White-tailed deer reproduce very quickly: a herd can double its population in just one year!
At birth, a fawn usually weighs up to four kilograms.
A litter of two is the norm under ideal conditions, although a single birth is also common among young hinds or following a particularly harsh winter.
Encountering a fawn without its mother does not mean that it has been abandoned. The fawn hides in the vegetation while the doe goes off to feed. When she returns, she uses her keen sense of smell to discover her youngster's hiding place. She then emits a muffled "maternal" growl to encourage her offspring to come out into the open!
The doe feeds her young three to four times a day, until they are four months old. She produces a highly concentrated milk, much richer in fat than cow's milk.
The Canadian white-tailed deer population comprises three subspecies and is distributed across a wide range of regions, from Cape Breton to south-central British Columbia. White-tailed deer are even found as far north as Great Slave Lake. Everywhere, in scrubby valleys, parks and forest edges, the energetic fawn gathers strength and plays, much as children would, to learn survival skills and behaviors.

Packaging
The coin is encapsulated and presented in a burgundy double-shell case featuring the Royal Canadian Mint logo. The case is accompanied by a black protective box.Automatically translated
