Edge

Plain or reeded, the image shows both edge types. Plain-edged planchets are slightly thinner.

NOTE: For this type of coin the edge must be smooth, but sometimes traces of reeding are visible. The reeded edge is a mark of the previous coins km# 28 exactly as the traces of prevoius coin in the obverse or reverse.
The more these marks are visible the more the coin worths. Coins perfectly reeded are very rare

Comment

These have to be considered as emergency coins, since they were minted in years when nickel was very precious for military industries. To conserve the nickel, were used the previous 20 centesimos coins (km# 28) withdrawn from circulation as base metal to overstrike these new coins. For this reason many coins have signs of the design of the previous km# 28. The more these signs are clear and well defined the more valued is the coin.
