Interesting fact
This coin was designed by the renowned artist and engraver, Charles E. Barber, who also designed several other coins for Uruguay, including the 1896 Uruguayan peso. Barber's design for the Pattern 20 Centavos features a bust of José Artigas, a national hero of Uruguay, on the obverse, and a depiction of the Sun of May, a symbol of Uruguayan independence, on the reverse. The coin was minted in 1899, but it was never officially released into circulation, making it a rare and highly sought-after collector's item among numismatists.
