1954 was declared the Year of the Liberator Marshal Castilla, celebrating the centenary of the decree that abolished slavery on October 3, 1854 in Huancayo, during the liberal revolution led by Ramón Castilla that would lead him to the provisional presidency and then to his second term as constitutional president.

Interesting fact

The Mariscal Castilla coin was minted to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the birth of Marshal Miguel Castilla, a Peruvian military leader and politician who played a key role in the country's struggle for independence from Spain.
