Comment

From 1968 to 1970, 198,613,248 blank planchets were manufactured at the United States Mint in Denver. These weighed 7.86 grams and were used for 1967 dated coins.

The production of Cruzeiro Novo (NCr$) coins continued after the change of monetary standard to Cruzeiro (Cr$) in 1970. Therefore, the Central Bank of Brazil considers coins after 1970 to belong to the new Cruzeiro monetary unit.

The Cruzeiro Novo coins (NCr$), 1967-1969), continued in use until 1980 alongside the Cruzeiro coins

Interesting fact

The 20 Centavos coin from Brazil, produced between 1967 and 1970, has a unique feature. It was the first coin in Brazilian history to bear the image of a woman. The coin features a portrait of Princess Isabel, who played a significant role in Brazil's history as a regent and advocate for women's rights. This coin serves as a reminder of the progress made towards gender equality and the importance of recognizing the contributions of women in shaping Brazil's history.
