Interesting fact
The Guangxu ND (1903-1904) 20 Cash coin from Chekiang Province was made of copper, but it was also one of the first coins to feature a portrait of the emperor, Guangxu, on the obverse side. This was a departure from the traditional Chinese coin design that featured symbols or characters on the obverse side. The inclusion of the emperor's portrait was a sign of the influence of Western coinage designs and marked a shift towards modernization in Chinese coinage.
