Comment

The Thailand Royal Rainmaking Project (Thai: โครงการฝนหลวง, RTGS: khrongkan fon luang) was initiated in November 1955 by King Bhumibol Adulyadej. Thai farmers repeatedly suffered the effects of drought. The king resolved to do something about it and proposed a solution to the dearth of rain: artificial rain-making, or cloud seeding. The program is run by the Department of Royal Rainmaking and Agricultural Aviation.

Interesting fact

The 20 Baht - Rama IX (Royal Artificial Rain) 2548 (2005) coin from Thailand is unique in that it was created to commemorate the 60th anniversary of King Bhumibol Adulyadej's accession to the throne. The coin's design features an image of the king on one side and a depiction of the royal artificial rain-making project on the other. The project was initiated by the king himself, who was concerned about the drought and its impact on Thai farmers. The coin's release was a way to honor the king's commitment to improving the lives of his people and to highlight the importance of water conservation in Thailand.
