The interesting fact about this coin is that it features an image of Father Jerzy Popiełuszko, a Polish Catholic priest and martyr who became a symbol of resistance against communism in Poland during the 1980s. He was arrested and imprisoned several times for his activism and was eventually murdered by the communist authorities in 1984. The coin was issued in 2009 to commemorate the 25th anniversary of his death.
