Comment

The recorded mintage is 2 million pcs., but almost all of them were destroyed after the disapproval of the coin type. Supposedly, only 35 coins remained.

The Central Bank of Ecuador says that these coins were minted by Vereinigte Deutsche Metallwerke (Germany), despite them being listed in the 1975 report of the British Royal Mint.

Interesting fact

The 2 Sucres coin from Ecuador, minted in 1973, has an interesting feature. It's not its design or rarity but its metallic composition. It is made of Copper-nickel, an alloy comprising 75% copper and 25% nickel. This combination gives the coin a unique property: it is highly resistant to corrosion. This feature is remarkable, especially considering that many coins from that era were made of less durable materials. This coin's resistance to corrosion ensures it will remain in good condition for an extended period, making it an excellent addition to any coin collection.
