Bulgaria was known as the Principality of Bulgaria (1878-1908) and Tsardom of Bulgaria (1908-1946) earlier.
The Royal Coat of Arms was adopted in 1887. The Central Heraldic lion (lesser Coat of Arms) remained the same while some modifications were made to the full version in 1927 & that remained till 1946.
Ferdinand I (1861-1948) was the Prince of Bulgaria from 1887 to 1908 & then Tsar of Bulgaria from 1908 to 1918.
