Interesting fact
One interesting fact about the 1937-1947 South African 2½ Shillings coin is that it was minted during World War II, and its production was affected by the war effort. The coin was minted in two different variants: one with a high silver content (80% Ag, 20% Cu) and one with a lower silver content (50% Ag, 50% Cu). The variant with the higher silver content was minted until 1942, when the supply of silver ran low due to the war effort, and the mint switched to the lower silver content variant. This makes the coin an interesting piece of history for collectors and numismatists.
