Date of issue: 17 JAN 2000Sofia Vassilievna Kovalevskaya (b. January 15, 1850 - d. February 10, 1891) - the first Russian woman as corresponding Member of the St. Petersburg Academy of Sciences (1889), a publicist writer. She created works on mathematical analysis, astronomy, mechanic. The works of S. V. Kovalevskaya were awarded with prizes of Paris Academy of Sciences (1888) and of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences .
