Date of issue: 01 OCT 2010Nikolay Ivanovich Pirogov (1810-1881) - surgeon, anatomist, founder of the field surgery, corresponding member of the Saint Petersburg Academy of Sciences (1846), participated in the Sevastopol Defense (1854-55), French-Prussian (1870-71) and Russian-Turk (1877-78) wars. Pirogov's Atlas "Topographical Anatomy" gained the world-wide reputation.
