The caracal is a small common feline, which lives in East Africa and the Middle East. Its name, which comes from the Turkish word meaning "black ears", was given to it by Buffon in 1761. Interesting fact
The 2½ Rials - Qaboos (Caracal) 1397 (1977) coin from Oman is unique in that it features a portrait of Sultan Qaboos bin Said Al Said, the former ruler of Oman, on one side, and a caracal (a wild cat native to the region) on the other.
