Comment

Krause catalog mentions for this type KM#307 the dates from 1718 to 1726 but the year 1718 is listed as a separate type in the specialized catalogs of Spain as Calicó, the differences being evident in the lettering (DEI · G / D · G) and in the design of the coat of arms, especially in the crown. The weight of the 1718 coins is also lower (5.50 gr for 6.00 gr).

Interesting fact

The 2 Reales coin from Spain, minted during the reign of Philip V (1720-1726) at the Seville mint, features an unusual design element - a small 'D' mintmark on the obverse (front) side of the coin, which stands for 'Dux' or 'Duke' in Latin. This mintmark was used to indicate that the coin was minted at the Seville mint, which was also known as the 'Mint of the Duke' (Casa de la Moneda del Duque) at the time. This is a distinctive feature that sets this coin apart from other coins minted during the same period.
