The 2 Reales coin from Panama, minted during the reign of Philip II (1580-1583), was part of a series of coins known as the "Pieces of Eight," which were widely used in the Spanish colonies in the Americas. These coins were made of silver and were divided into eight smaller units, known as "bits," which were used for smaller transactions. The 2 Reales coin was equivalent to two bits, and it was a commonly used denomination in the Spanish colonies. It's interesting to note that the design of the coin has a unique feature, the shield on the reverse side is not the usual Spanish shield, but the coat of arms of the King of Spain, Philip II, which is a sign of the coin's authenticity.
