Comment

Due to the "Liberal Revolution" of 1871, Guatemala removed itself from the Latin Monetary Union. Real coinage was reintroduced and the Guatemalan Peso was defined as 25.4 grams of .900 silver.

Interesting fact

One interesting fact about the 1872-1873 Guatemalan 2 Reales coin is that it was minted during a time of significant political and economic change in Guatemala. The country had recently gained independence from Spain and was in the process of establishing its own government and currency system. The 2 Reales coin was one of the first coins to be minted by the new government, and it features a unique blend of Spanish and indigenous influences in its design. Despite its relatively small denomination, the coin has become a sought-after collector's item due to its historical significance and rarity.
