Britain was at the edge of the Roman Empire in the early 2nd century. Rome had invaded and colonialised England and much of Wales in a campaign starting in AD 43, but had never succeeded in gaining a foothold north, always held back by Pict and Caledonian tribes in what we now call Scotland.Pict Warrior - without them attacking and holding their ground there would been no need for a wall to be built in the first place.
