The sixth release in the Innovation in Science series, this was the first £2 coin issued in the series. The coin was issued as part of the Annual Proof (6,891 sales), Premium Proof (2,462 sales) and Brilliant Uncirculated sets (40,873 sales), in a BU pack (15,917 sales) and in trade packaging for third parties (33,546 sales). The coin was also struck in silver proof, silver piedfort, gold proof and platinum proof.
