Victory in Europe Day, or VE Day, was celebrated on May 8th 1945, the beginning of the end of World War II.

Released as part of the 2020 annual BU and proof sets and available as individual pieces, the design was also struck in silver proof, silver piedfort and gold proof. The BU mintage comprised the Annual coin sets (37,117 sales), individual Royal Mint packs (31,322 sales), third party trade packaging (61,055 sales), coin and stamp sets (1,498 sales), and 1945 Coinage sets (796 sales). the Proof mintage comprised the Annual Proof coin sets (6,802 sales), and the Premium Proof Annual coin sets (2,474 sales).
