Issued for circulation as well as being issued in a 4-coin set in both Brilliant Uncirculated and Proof qualities, a coin and stamp BU set was also issued. The coin was also struck in silver proof, silver piedfort and gold proof.© The Royal Mint, 2002
This coin is often mistaken for the English £2 as the flags are similar, especially on worn coins, however the horizontal lines are thinner on the England coin.
Interesting fact
One interesting fact about this coin is that it was minted to commemorate the 2002 Commonwealth Games, which were held in Manchester, England. The coin's design features a depiction of the Games' logo, along with the Queen's portrait and the inscription "Games in Northern Ireland." It was the first time a circulating coin had been issued to commemorate the Commonwealth Games.
