Timothy Noad based his reverse design on that of Eric Sewell for the introduction of the £1 coin in 1983. The Royal Arms consists of a shield with a design of three lions of England featured in the first and fourth quadrants, the rampant lion of Scotland in the second and a harp for Ireland in the third.
