Menzel: BBBInteresting fact
The 2 Pfennigs coin from Munich (Gaswerk A.D.Dachauerstr.) ND was minted during a time when Germany was going through a period of hyperinflation. In 1923, the inflation rate in Germany peaked at 200,000,000,000% per month, which meant that the value of the German mark was dropping rapidly. To combat this, the government introduced a new currency, the Rentenmark, which was pegged to gold and restricted the amount of money that could be printed. The 2 Pfennigs coin was part of this new currency system and was minted in zinc, a cheaper metal, to reduce production costs. Despite the economic challenges of the time, the coin still maintains a certain collectible value today.
