Interesting fact
The 2½ Pesewas coin was the first coin to be introduced in Ghana after the country gained independence from British colonial rule in 1957. It was part of a new decimal currency system that replaced the old British West African pound, and it was designed to be easily recognizable and accessible to the average Ghanaian citizen. The coin's design features a portrait of the first president of Ghana, Kwame Nkrumah, on one side, and a traditional Ghanaian symbol, the "ankran," on the other. The ankran is a stylized representation of a cocoa pod, which is a nod to Ghana's major cocoa industry. The coin's unique design and historical significance make it a popular collector's item among numismatists and enthusiasts of African history.
