Comment

IN 1738 Francis III of Lorraine abdicated in favor of Stanislaw Lesczynski of Poland as part of the settlement of the war of the Polish Succession, and became Grand Duke of Tuscany.

In 1738, coins of both the Duchy of Lorraine and Duchy of Tuscany were minted with his effigy.

Interesting fact

One interesting fact about this coin is that it features a unique design element - the portrait of Francis II, the Grand Duke of Tuscany, is depicted facing to the right, which was a departure from the traditional left-facing portraits found on most coins of the time. This design choice was likely made to distinguish the coin from other coins circulating in the region and to emphasize the authority and power of the Grand Duke.
