Comment

The Song of Songs is perhaps the most exalted of literary love songs. Judaism views the book, also known as the Song of Solomon, as a dialogue between G-d and the Children of Israel and an expression of His eternal love.

For some the songs are viewed simply and compassionately as an expression of innocent, pastoral love. All are enthralled by their beauty and the expressions of deep love for the landscape, springtime, nature and the flora of the Land of Israel.

The Lion and the Pomegranate is 7th in the Flora and Fauna from the Song of Songs Series. The lion is noted as the "King of Beasts" in the Talmud and is mentioned more than 150 times in the Five Books of Moses, by a variety of names. It served as the symbol of the Kingdom of Judah and to this day symbolizes the City of Jerusalem. The pomegranate symbolizes fertility and the imagery of a beloved's beauty "Thy temples are like a pomegranate".

Interesting fact

The Lion and Pomegranate coin was designed by Israeli artist and sculptor, Yitzhak Kohen, and it features a lion and a pomegranate tree on one side, and the Hebrew inscription "Two New Sheqalim" on the other. The lion is a symbol of strength and courage, while the pomegranate represents fertility and abundance, reflecting the themes of prosperity and growth that are central to Jewish culture and tradition.
