The Israel Government declared the year 5754 "Year of the Environment". Intensive activity and educational efforts were aimed at preserving the environment and increasing awareness of the importance of clean air and water. In this spirit, the Israel Independence Day Coin1994 was also dedicated to the environment. The State of Israel recognized the national importance of this subject and joined the worldwide efforts to protect Planet Earth. Much had already been achieved in cleaning coasts and streams, rehabilitating rivers, recycling waste, prevention of air pollution and educating towards environmental protection in schools.This beautiful coin depicts the Earth at the center of the petals of a flower, symbolizing its fragility.
