This coin commemorates the Ushinsky South Ukrainian National Pedagogical University, one of the oldest educational institutions in Ukraine. The first pedagogical university in southern Ukraine, it was founded on 2 May 1817 in Odesa as a part of the Richelieu Lyceum. According to the statute of the Richelieu Lyceum, the Main Pedagogical Institute was established with the purpose of 'training intelligent and talented teachers capable of passing their knowledge on to other people'.Interesting fact
One interesting fact about this coin is that it features an image of K.D. Ushynsky, a prominent Ukrainian educator and pedagogue, on its obverse side.
