Interesting fact
One interesting fact about the Pattern 2 Francs (Essai) 1948 from Djibouti › French Somaliland (1896-1967) made of Copper-nickel weighing 10.3 g is that it features a unique design that was never adopted for circulation. The coin features a portrait of a young woman wearing a traditional Somali headdress on the obverse, and a depiction of a dhow (a traditional Arab sailing vessel) on the reverse. This design was created by the French engraver, Albert Mestre, and was intended to be used as a prototype for a new currency for French Somaliland. However, the design was ultimately rejected in favor of a more traditional design featuring the French Republic's symbols. As a result, this coin is a rare and interesting piece of numismatic history.
