Comment

In 1944, blank planchets of the 1943 steel cent were used for minting the Belgium 1944 2 franc coin.
The coins were minted at the Philadelphia Mint for the liberation of Belgium.

Interesting fact

The coin features a unique design that was created specifically for the Allied Occupation Coinage. The obverse (front) side of the coin depicts a portrait of King Leopold III, while the reverse (back) side features an image of a shield with the letters "A" and "B" on either side, representing the Allied powers and Belgium, respectively. This design was used for all coins in the Allied Occupation Coinage series, which was issued during the period of German occupation in World War II.
