The 2 Francs coin was introduced in 1849 as part of a new decimal system of currency that replaced the old system of livres, sous, and deniers. This coin was made of silver (.900) and weighed 10 grams, making it a substantial coin that was worth twice the value of the 1 Franc coin. The coin features the image of a young woman representing the French Republic, surrounded by a wreath of oak leaves and the motto "Liberté, Égalité, Fraternité" (Liberty, Equality, Fraternity) on the obverse side, and the denomination and date on the reverse side. Despite being minted for only a few years, this coin remains a popular collector's item among numismatists today.
