The Pattern 2 Fen coin was designed by a French sculptor named Paul-Émile Bouchard, who was commissioned by the Chinese government to create a new coinage system for the country. Bouchard's design features a stylized dragon on the obverse (front) side of the coin, and a phoenix on the reverse (back) side. The coin was minted in copper and was intended to be used as a low-denomination coin for everyday transactions. Despite its intended use, the Pattern 2 Fen coin is now a rare and highly sought-after collector's item, with some mint conditions selling for thousands of dollars.
