Comment
The coin commemorates the historic centre of Cordoba, the first Spanish site to be included in UNESCO’s World Heritage List in 1984. Built between the 8th and 10th centuries, the Mosque was later consecrated as a Christian cathedral and underwent a series of transformations. The coin is the first in a new series dedicated to the Spanish sites on the UNESCO’s World Heritage List. One such commemorative coin will be issued every year as from 2010.Interesting fact
The Mosque–Cathedral of Córdoba coin has a unique design that reflects the rich history and cultural heritage of Spain. The coin features an image of the Mosque–Cathedral of Córdoba, a famous architectural landmark that was originally built as a mosque in the 8th century and later converted into a cathedral in the 13th century. The coin's design also includes the inscription "Santa Iglesia Catedral de Córdoba" (Holy Church Cathedral of Córdoba) and the year 2010. The use of a bimetallic material, with a nickel brass clad nickel center in a copper-nickel ring, gives the coin a distinctive look and feel. Overall, this coin is a beautiful representation of Spain's cultural and architectural heritage.
