Comment

Domenikos Theotokopoulos (1541-1614), better known as El Greco, was born in Crete, where he first trained as a
painter, before studying under Titian in Venice. In 1577, he settled in Toledo, Spain, where he was to create his
more famous masterpieces. Considered a forerunner of modernism, he influenced several 20th-century artists.
The coin was issued in bankrolls, in Proof quality along with the proof year set and in BU quality on a coin card blister.

Interesting fact

The coin features an image of Domenikos Theotokopoulos, a renowned Greek painter and artist who is widely regarded as one of the greatest painters of the Greek Renaissance. The coin's design is based on one of his most famous works, "The Baptism of Christ," which is a fresco that can be found in the monastery of St. Nicholas Anapafsas in Meteora, Greece.
