The UEFA EURO 2020 has certainly been memorable. For the first time ever the tournament was postponed to the next year. The matches will be spread across no less than 12 countries around Europe. As the tournament is a special occasion in history, it deserves something tangible to remember it by. The Royal Mint of Belgium therefore introduces the official 2.5 euro coin for the UEFA EURO 2020.The obverse of this 2.5 euro shows the official UEFA EURO 2020 logo over a football field. The field will be the stage of a beautiful spectacle in June and July! On the reverse you can see the same graphic composition as used for the 2021 issues. The colourful coincard encasing this sports coin is truly an eye-catcher, using a playful mix of stylized football elements. Bearing in mind the exceptionality of this UEFA EURO edition, the mintage of only 50,000 pieces is a relatively small amount.
Interesting fact
One interesting fact about the UEFA EURO 2020 2½ Euros coin from Belgium is that it features a unique design that combines elements of both football (soccer) and the host country, Belgium. The coin's reverse side features a stylized image of a football player in action, surrounded by the outline of a football stadium. At the same time, the coin's obverse side features a portrait of King Philippe of Belgium, highlighting the country's royal heritage.
