Interesting fact

The coin features a unique design that showcases the 10th anniversary of the European Monetary Union (EMU), which was established in 1999. The coin's design includes an image of a stylized EU map, with the EMU logo at its center, surrounded by the inscription "10 Years of EMU" in Portuguese. This design was created by the artist José Aurélio, and it was chosen as the winning entry in a national competition organized by the Bank of Portugal.
