Comment
The standard weight of this coin was 64½ grains. This coin and the 5 dollar coin with the same design are the only incused coins in the United States. At the time, people didn't like the design and wrongly believed that they would carry germs. Few coins still exist with exceptional quality. Today, this design is recognized as an important step of the renewal in US minting and is more popular than the Liberty type.
These coins circulated in British Honduras (Belize) until 1933.
Interesting fact
The "Indian Head - Quarter Eagle" coin was designed by sculptor Bela Lyon Pratt and was the first coin to feature an incused design, meaning the images and letters were sunken into the surface of the coin rather than raised above it. This unique design was a departure from the traditional coin designs of the time and gave the coin a distinctive look.
