The royal family of Qatar paid the trifling sum of 158.4 million pounds (or more than 250 million dollars) for a painting by Paul Cézanne entitled “The Card Players”. This was an extraordinary amount which outclassed the current record-holder, Jackson Pollock’s ”Number 5” (1948), sold in 2006 for 140 million dollars.
