Comment
This is an unusual triangular shaped $2 coin that has a depiction of a "Kumete" which has been traditionally used to pound root foods such as arrowroot. This particular "Kumete" is a traditional one from the island of Atiu and is illustrated in Sir Peter Bucks great work on Polynesian artifacts.Interesting fact
One interesting fact about this coin is that it features a unique portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, which was designed specifically for the Cook Islands. The portrait was created by sculptor Raphael Maklouf and shows the Queen wearing a tiara and a necklace that is adorned with a large pearl. This portrait was used on all Cook Islands coins from 1987 to 1994 and has become a distinctive feature of the country's currency.
