Comment

The very similar design and size to the 1 DM coin resulting in frequent confusions made it quite unpopular which resulted in a short production run and swift withdrawal from circulation.
It is also the only post World War (West) German coin that got demonetized and is not exchangeable for Euros.

Interesting fact

One interesting fact about the 2 Deutsche Mark coin from 1951 is that it features a unique design that was only used for a short period of time. The coin's obverse (front) side features the portrait of a young woman, representing the "German People," while the reverse (back) side features a stylized eagle and the words "Bundesrepublik Deutschland" (Federal Republic of Germany). This design was used for only a few years before being replaced by a new design in 1955.
