Comment

Victoriano Lorenzo was a Panamanian hero of the Thousand Days' War, fought between Colombian Liberals and Conservatives. (At the time, Panama was a mere department of Colombia.) Lorenzo fought for the Liberals and refused to accept defeat when the war ended, hiding with his men in the mountains and fighting in a guerilla conflict. He was executed mere months before Panama gained independence from a much-destabilized Colombia.

Interesting fact

The 2½ Centésimos (Republic) 1978 coin from Panama was designed by artist José de la Vega, and it features the image of a harp on its obverse side. The harp is a symbol of Panama's cultural heritage and is also featured on the country's coat of arms.
