Interesting fact
This coin was designed by French engraver and medalist, Jean-Jacques Barre, who was also responsible for creating the designs of many other French coins during the 19th century. Barre's design for the 2 Centimes coin features a portrait of Napoleon III, who was the Emperor of France from 1852 to 1870, on the obverse (front side), while the reverse (back side) features a trial design that was not ultimately adopted for the final version of the coin. Instead, the reverse of the circulating 2 Centimes coin featured a wreath surrounding the denomination. The use of a trial design on the reverse of this pattern coin makes it a unique and interesting piece for collectors.
