Comment
Obverse of the definitive type and reverse of the non-adopted type, with the word "CENTIMES" oblique on a ribbon.Interesting fact
The Pattern 2 Centimes (Epreuve en bronze) 1898 was designed by French sculptor and engraver, Oscar Roty. Roty was a prominent artist of the time, known for his work on various coins and medals, including the famous "Sower" series of coins for France. The Pattern 2 Centimes coin features a woman representing the Republic of France, surrounded by a wreath of olive branches, and was intended to be a new design for the 2 centime coin. However, it was ultimately not adopted for circulation and remains a rare and sought-after collector's item.
