 1727-B Edge Variants:
- Bentes 102.01 - edge with Fleur de Lys Type; Rare.
- Bentes 102.02 - edge with Rope Type; Very Rare.

On the date 1727-B, with the 2nd Type of Shield, between the edge fleur de lys type and edge rope type, only 24 pieces are known. On date 1728-B, a unique piece is known; on date 1729-B, with 2nd Type of Shield, only 4 pieces are known; and on the date 1730-B, only 8 pieces. (Catalog Rodrigo Maldonado; 2020-2021. Bentes, Official Guide to Brazilian Coins (7th edition), pag. 168)

The original edge of the coins is the Type 1 (Rope Type), which was used until 1731, when the edge Type 2 (Fleur de Lys Type) was adopted. From then on, it was ordered that the new edge be applied to the previous coins. Hence the high rarity of specimens with original rope edge.

Interesting fact

One interesting fact about the 12800 Réis - João V (2nd Type of Shield; Bahia) 1727-1730 coin from Brazil is that it was minted during a time of great economic and political change in Brazil. The coin was issued during the reign of King João V, who ruled Portugal and its colonies, including Brazil, from 1706 to 1750. During this time, Brazil was experiencing significant economic growth, particularly in the mining and agriculture sectors, which led to an increase in trade and commerce. The coin's minting was likely a response to the growing demand for currency in Brazil and the need for a standardized form of payment. The fact that it was made of gold, which was a valuable and highly sought-after metal at the time, further highlights the coin's significance and value.
