Reverse
Designed by Canadian artist Pierre Leduc, your coin features a sideprofile of a majestic elk (Cervus canadensis). Detailed engraving adds a sense of texture to this majestic species' fur and towering rack of antlers, which overlap the field. Lifting its heavy head towards the sky, the bull releases its high-pitched cry into the autumn breeze, allowing it to resonate across the forest and river valley depicted in the background.

The sound of elk bellowing is a sure sign that autumn has arrived in the wilds of Western Canada. During the bellowing, shrill bellowing echoes across the landscape, filling the crisp autumn air: the bull is announcing his presence. This characteristic call is a ritual demonstration of strength and vitality for this great cervid, represented here in all its pure silver splendor.Did you know?
The elk is one of the world's largest cervids; in fact, only the moose surpasses it in size.
A healthy, mature bull measures an average of 150 centimetres at the shoulder, but its immense antlers can add another 120 to its height and width... weighing up to 22 kilograms.
The male's antlers regrow every spring. Contrary to popular belief, you can't tell an elk's exact age by the number of antlers it has. Typically, an elk's head gains its first horn in its second year, and each spring the antlers grow back with at least one more horn, if the animal is healthy. Thus, the antlers of an older, unhealthy elk may have no more horns than those of a younger, healthier bull.
More than half of Canada's elk population is found in British Columbia, with a significant number in Alberta. Thousands of elk are also found in Saskatchewan and Manitoba, while in northern Ontario and the Yukon, they were reintroduced in the last century.
Packaging
The coin is encapsulated and presented in a wooden box embossed with the Royal Canadian Mint logo and accompanied by a black protective box.
