Interesting fact
The 12 Mariengroschen coin from the Bishopric of Münster, minted during the reign of Frederick Christian of Plettenberg (1692-1694), features an image of the Virgin Mary on the obverse side, which is why it's called a "Mariengroschen" (meaning "Marian groat" in German). The coin was made of silver and was a standard circulation coin in the German States during that time.
