Interesting fact
The 12 Kreuzer coin from the Archbishopric of Mainz, minted during the reign of Anselm Francis of Ingelheim (1691-1692), was made of silver, but it was also one of the first coins to feature a depiction of a person of color. The coin's obverse (front side) features an image of St. Maurice, a black saint and martyr, who was revered as a symbol of justice and equality. This representation of a person of color on a coin was a rare occurrence during that time period and highlights the progressive nature of the Archbishopric of Mainz.
