1767 FRENCH COLONIES COPPER "SOU" OR SOL DE 12 DENIERS
In 1767, France issued 1.6 million copper Sols (valued at 9 Deniers) for use in the French Colonies in the Caribbean. The vast majority of these were counterstamped with an oval punch with the letters "RF" (République Française). Many of the counterstamped piece ended up in the American Colonies, where they circulated at the value of one Cent. Because of their presence in "American" change, they are considered part of the American Colonial series, despite their manufacture overseas.

Interesting fact

One interesting fact about the 12 Deniers - Louis XV 1767 coin from French West Indies (Overseas France) is that it was minted during a time of great economic and political change in France. The coin was issued during the reign of Louis XV, who was known for his extravagant spending and lavish lifestyle. This, combined with the costly wars France was involved in at the time, led to a severe financial crisis in the country. Despite this, the coin still holds significant historical value and is a sought-after collector's item today.
